2 killed, 5 wounded in curfew shooting incident

TWO persons were killed including a barangay councilman while five others including four barangay tanods were wounded in a curfew-related shooting incident in Purok 1, Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, Thursday night, March 26.

The fatalities were identified as Rex Dalmacio, councilman of the barangay and Junel Cardinal of Barangay Canlandog of the said town. The latter was identified as one of the two suspects.

Wounded were identified as barangay tanods Romeo Canoy, Samuel Ciocon, Rommel Udani and Alex Losorio. One of the suspects identified as Alfredo Agustin was also reportedly wounded on his knee.

Police Major Robert Dejucos, Chief of Murcia Police Station said that based on their investigation, the two suspects were intercepted at around 11 PM by Dalmacio along with the barangay tanods for violating the curfew.

When the team were readying the barangay vehicle to endorse the two suspects to Murcia PNP, Agustin reportedly went on a shooting spree hitting Dalmacio first.

Despite that he was already wounded, Dalmacio who is a retired Army Master Sergeant was able to draw his gun and shoot Cardinal.

Agustin then escaped from the crime scene.

Authorities conducted a manhunt operation that led to the arrest of Agustin at the house of his brother in Barangay Lopez Jaena also in Murcia on Friday.

Dejucos said Agustin refused to be endorsed at the Murcia PNP because he has a pending warrant of arrest for murder.

He said they are conducting a thorough investigation on reports that Agustin and Cardinal could be involved in some robbery cases in the town and that they could also be into gun for hire operation.

Agustin said that they were from Bago City when they were intercepted by the barangay officials of Minoyan.
