Palmares & Moises: Not victims but victors

M: We are being forced to stay at home, or if we need to go out to go to work, buy groceries or medicines, to practice social distancing. We have to wash our hands regularly, avoid touching MEN (mouth, eyes, nose), sanitize our things, practice good personal hygiene, stay healthy and boost our immune system.

Everything has changed. What we have taken for granted before, we look at with new eyes now.

DJ: Covid-19 is changing our world. Thus it helps to also change our ways. First is our attitude toward information. Instead of believing everything on our newsfeed, it’s good stay offline for a period and if we need to, go directly to sites with accurate information such as that of the World Health Organization (WHO) or the Department of Health (DOH). Know what you need and choose your source. This will give back the control to us instead of being controlled by everything we read or hear.

M: If boredom strikes because we are on quarantine, we should change our mindset and be grateful for the small sacrifice that we need to do to keep all of us safe. The frontliners like doctors are out there fighting a battle that we can all win if we cooperate and help each other. What can we do while we are at home? A lot. Pray. Stop posting negative things online and do not spread or share fake news.

DJ: I always think that Covid-19 can do something to our body but it can’t do something with our mind. That’s the area we have the most control. Thus, let’s guard everything we allow inside our head. Negativity included. And if we check a thousand peso bill by running it through our fingers to make sure it isn’t fake, the more we need to be mindful about news, rumors and hearsay we allow to enter the mind. This is another mindset I can suggest.

M: These are different, challenging times we live in. Everything is uncertain. We are anxious and afraid. But if there is one thing that consoles me is that all this too shall pass. So let nothing disturb you. All things are passing. God alone does not change. Patient endurance will attain all things. Whoever possesses God, will possess everything. God alone suffices.

DJ: We’re now in a century when change happens fast and furious. Now what? It helps when we accept change as fundamental part of life and focus on how we move forward instead of being too caught up in its disruptive aspects. Resilience is not about feeling good even in negative situation. It is about committing to doing one’s best in spite of the negativity around. We’re not victims but victors.
