THE Cebu City Government will provide all the 80 barangays in the city with financial assistance to utilize during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period.

The first 10 barangays with the highest population will receive P3 million; P2 million for the next 10 barangays with highest population; and P1 million for the rest of the barangays.

The top 10 barangays with highest population are Barangays Guadalupe, Tisa, Basak San Nicolas, Mambaling, Lahug, Labangon, Inayawan, Quiot, Bulacao and Mabolo.

The barangay captains will sign an undertaking that the fund will be used to help their respective residents.

Cebu City Accountant Jerome Ornopia said village chiefs should use 80 percent of the bulk for food supplies, while the 20 percent will be spent for other supplies such as fuel, medicine, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia said village chiefs only have to comply with “minimal requirements.”

Garcia added the City only needs the receipt showing the village chiefs have already received the money.

The money came from the 2020 annual budget aid for the barangays.

After the City will release the money, it will be in the hands of the village chiefs to secure receipts of the allocations of the budget in compliance with the Commission on Audit (COA).

Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) President and Kasambagan Barangay Captain Franklyn Ong encouraged village chiefs to look for a supplier as soon as possible.

“I suggest that you look for a supplier as early as now so when the City releases the money, it would be easier for you to buy the food supplies and other supplies,” said Ong. (JJL)
