Vivant CEO dies of Covid-19

VIVANT Corp. chief executive officer and chairman Dennis N.A. Garcia passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020, due to complications related to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

He was 70 years old and had prior respiratory health issues, specifically emphysema. He had history of travel to Manila on January 24-27, 2020.

Garcia was hospitalized at Cebu Doctor’s University Hospital in Cebu City on Wednesday, March 25, where he was tested for Covid-19.

Positive confirmation of Covid-19 came on Saturday, March 28, but he died at 6:38 p.m. of the same day.

He was cremated at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 29.

Vivant is working with the Cebu City Government to track his movements in the two weeks prior to his hospitalization in order to identify people he was in close contact with for monitoring, quarantine and possible testing.

“We will also make this information available to any other affected LGUs (local government units) and/or national agencies,” said Vivant’s management in a press statement.

Vivant Corp. (VVT), through subsidiaries and affiliates, has interests in various companies engaged in electric power generation (renewable and non-renewable energy), electric power distribution, and retail electricity supply business. The Garcia-Escaño Family of Cebu owns approximately 76 percent of the outstanding capital stock of VVT as of December 31, 2017, according to the Philippine Stock Exchange. (PR)
