Cebu Bankers Club asked to remain operational

CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella asked the Cebu Bankers Club (CBC) to remain operational amid the implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the entire Cebu City.

In his letter sent to CBC president Neil Yu dated March 30, 2020, Labella directed the CBC to continue operating despite the ECQ implementation; all ATMs must remain operational; and should adopt uniform operating hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., except for banks located inside mall premises and government banks, which may operate up to 3 p.m.

Since banks are exempted based on his executive order, Labella said the skeletal workforce of the banks must observe social distancing.

“However, as a vital institution in the society whose employees are also considered as frontliners, the banking community has been exempted thereby and has been allowed to continue operating despite the declaration,” wrote Labella on his letter. (JJL)
