BJMP paralegal officer positive for Covid-19

A BUREAU of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

BJMP spokesperson Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said the patient is a female paralegal officer assigned to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory.

He said she has been working from home since March 21.

“Aside from the nature of her work, she was allowed to work at home during the jail lockdown because she has a pre-existing medical condition. She has asthma, hypertension, and diabetes,” he said.

“Immediately, we implemented our protocol. After visiting the hospital and with the advice of doctors, our personnel is at home under strict quarantine,” Solda added.

He said the BJMP is already conducting contact tracing to determine who might have had direct contact with the patient.

“We assure the public that we are doing our best, doubling our efforts in implementing all of our precautionary measures to protect our facilities from the virus,” he said.

Solda also said none of the persons deprived of liberty in BJMP facilities have been infected by the virus. (SunStar Philippines)
