Journalists to hold rally over Ampatuan trial (1:10 p.m.)

MANILA -- Journalists will march to Mendiola today (Tuesday) at 5 p.m. to bring attention back to the Ampatuan massacre.

The trial for the massacre that left at least 50 people, including members of the media, dead has been postponed indefinitely.

“On this 4th month of the Ampatuan massacre, journalists will march to Mendiola to bring back public attention to the tragedy and push for the prosecution of perpetrators,” said Rowena Paraan of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.

“The hearing has been indefinitely postponed, families of victims and witnesses are being pressured/threatened and public attention is waning,” she added.

The rally will be held in front of the Far Eastern University in Morayta, according to Paraan. (Angela Casauay/Sunnex)
