AMID the crisis and uncertainty experienced across the globe today, Kapampangans never forget to lend hand to families who are greatly affected by the situation.

In this municipality, local officials are personally leading the drive-in assisting families whose livelihood were displaced due to the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine to stop the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Dubbed as “Adopt a Family,” the program aims to help deprived families survive the month-long lockdown by providing some of their daily basic needs, especially food.

Under the program, some 71 families are now receiving relief packs and other necessities from local officials and department heads who volunteered to adopt them while enhanced community quarantine is in place.

Ten of the said families were adopted by Mayor Rene Maglanque, while Patrol Party-list congressmen Jorge Bustos and Rey Turla are extending helping hands to a total of 33 families.

Vice Mayor Michael Sagum also is helping five Candabeño families, while his fellow Sangguniang Bayan members, including ex-officios, adopted two each.

Three private individuals namely Dr. Anthony Clemente, Catalina Clemente and Mel Manimbo also provide relief assistance to chosen families.

The said assistance is apart from the relief aid being distributed by the local government to all needy residents of the 33 barangays of this town.

“We have to be united to survive this global pandemic that hit us today. And while this is a health emergency, we must also consider families who are suffering not because of the virus but due to the negative social impact it created,” Maglanque said.

Maglanque urged fellow Candabeños who have means in life to also extend a helping hand to vulnerable families, may it be relatives, friends or even strangers.

“Helping does not have to be grand. We can start with our circle, our relatives and friends who are also in need, as long as we are doing our share in the community, most especially in these trying times,” he said.
