THE Dalayapan Agrarian Reform Cooperative (Darco) has provided a total of 97 sacks of rice to 237 recipients at Barangay Caduha-an in Cadiz City recently.

Darco is a farmer-beneficiaries organization (Arbo) assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

For DAR-Negros Occidental I, the initiative of the association is a laudable socially-responsible act.

It said that amid the unprecedented coronavirus diseases (Covid-19) crisis that affected millions of Filipinos, one of the most successful farmer associations in the province has been molded.

“It has become an effective, efficient and model citizen of the nation,” it added.

The association, despite the lack of resources, has recognized the need of others and initiated to shell-out a huge amount of their cooperative’s income to extend help among their fellow farmers and farmworkers.

“Such a humble act of selflessness is what we all need in these hard and trying times,” it also said.

The agrarian reform cooperative has a total of 102 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) and 135 laborers.

It has 251 hectares of sugarcane plantation out of about 342-hectare acquired area under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).

The association is also developing a new tourist attraction called Dalayapan Eco Park, a next go-to picture-perfect destination for everyone.

DAR-Negros Occidental I said farmers are also frontliners in terms of production of food, which is an essential need for all during this Enhanced Community Quarantine period in the province.

As equally important as the medical personnel attending and providing intensive care to the patients, farmers are also the unsung heroes, working to deliver food straight to the people’s tables, it added.
