SILAY City Mayor Mark Andrew Golez said his constituents are showing cooperation to help end this coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic by staying at the confines of their homes.

They are one in helping break the chain of this pandemic by staying at home and being safe, he said.

He said one of the bright lights of this pandemic was people are working together to help their fellow Silaynons.

Unlike before, others like to whine, but now, people are finding ways and means to help themselves and others.

There is unity among people in the midst of Covid-19.

The Silay City Government is enforcing the directives coming from the national, provincial, down to the city level.

The Enhanced Community Quarantine is being enforced in full throttle in the city since the start of its effectivity and people have complied and cooperated with the city by staying at their respective homes.

The curfew is also being carried out and those who defy the law will be arrested by our law enforcers.

"But what I saw in our people in this Covid pandemic, they are careful and they are scared, the reason why they don’t leave their houses. We are doing everything in our power to protect our constituents by enforcing laws and continuously educating them about the bad effects of this pandemic. Various agencies of government also perform their tasks such as the Barangay Health workers, policemen, barangay officials and all the frontliners at the City Health office, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management team, among others to see to it that Covid infection will never spread any further.

The city also distributed quarantine passes (QPs) to its constituents with one pass per household.

The mayor said, "We don't put names of who is authorized by the family because what if the authorized person gets sick? Of course, the other family member can do or perform the errands on behalf of the family. We have the control numbers of all the QPs and we will know and can locate the addressee of the QP holder in case of misuse. So, it is faster and more efficient than name the QP to just one person. It is the obligation of the QP holder as to whom he or she will authorize to use the QP on behalf of their family.”

Silay was on its 5th day yesterday, April 1, in the distribution of food subsidy to the poorest of the poor in their city.

“This is just the first week and there will be another wave of distribution next week. We have identified the poorest of the poor based on the list given by our Barangay Health Workers and from the Barangays," the mayor said.

The city has also observed that there were some people who can afford to feed themselves in these times of crisis, who would also like to get food packs from the government, but the city is anchoring its actions on the directive of President Rodrigo R. Duterte that the poorest of the poor should be given utmost priority.

On the Barangay 5 issue relative toa report of a person under investigation, there was an erroneous recording and it was already eliminated from the official list of PUIs. So there is no more lockdown in the said barangay.

The mayor appealed to his people to please pray and keep safe.
