Lapu-Lapu Council approves hazard pay for frontliners

THE council of the government of Lapu-Lapu has approved the resolution spearheaded by City Councilor Rico Amores to provide hazard pay to the frontliners fighting the Covid-19 crisis.

The city government will be giving a hazard pay of P500 per day, based on the approval of the council during the special session held on Monday, March 30, 2020.

According to Amores, it will be up to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan if he will follow the proposed budget of P500 per day or not.

This is also retroactive starting March 17, which was the day the general community quarantine was implemented in the city and was recently raised to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Aside from this, Amores also declared that the city council has also approved the almost P261M budget requested by Chan as supplemental budget to be used to battle Covid-19.

Chan was first to announce that the city government will be using the said budget for the sacks of rice that will be given to families while the city is under ECQ.

Amores also said that while the city of Lapu-Lapu is under ECQ until April 14, it’s most likely that the council will postpone its sessions.

They hope to resume sessions by April 16, according to Amores.

However, they are prepared to hold a special session should the need arise while the city is under ECQ.

Amores reminds Oponganons to stay at home while the city is in ECQ since there will be aid coming to them from the city government.

Guidelines regarding the distribution of the midyear cash assistance for senior citizens in the city are still being sorted to avoid disrupting the social distancing ordinance.

Amores hopes that this matter will be finalized soon as senior citizens look forward to using this cash assistance during the ECQ.

"If a frontliner will work five days a week for a month, he can get P12,000," said Amores. (GCM with CBQ)
