THE Department of Health (DOH) 7 logged three new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases and two new recoveries in the region on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
This brought the total number of Covid-19 cases in Central Visayas to 33. The three additional cases were from Cebu City, Mandaue City and Consolacion town in northern Cebu, while two new recoveries were recorded in Cebu City.
Of the 33 cases, 22 are currently admitted in various hospitals. Two patients who showed mild symptoms are being managed at home under strict quarantine. Three patients recovered, while six others died.
Cebu City now has 21 cases (including four deaths and two recoveries). Lapu Lapu City has two cases (with zero death and zero recovery). Mandaue City has two cases (zero death and recoveries). Negros Oriental has four cases including two deaths. Bohol has one case (already recovered), while Cebu Province has three cases (zero death and zero recovery).
Infant death
In Naga City, Cebu, a two-month-old infant died last Tuesday afternoon, March 31, after experiencing coughing and fever. Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome secondary to severe pneumonia was identified as the cause of death.
The DOH 7-Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit was scheduled to pick up the swab sample from the infant for possible Covid-19 testing.
The City Government, with the parents’ consent, has facilitated the cremation of the baby’s remains within 24 hours, as a precuationary measure against the coronavirus in accordance with the DOH protocol.
While waiting for the test result, Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong assured her constituents that there is no need to panic.
National status
In the national level, eight more persons have died from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the mortality count in the Philippines to 96 as of April 1.
The Department of Health (DOH) also announced that 227 more infections have been confirmed, raising the total number in the country to 2,311.
A total of 50 patients have recovered, with one reported in the last 24 hours.
DOH Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also announced in a virtual press conference Wednesday that the first batch of personal protective equipment (PPE) comprising 15,000 sets has arrived. (WBS & RTF with REPORTS FROM SUNSTAR PHILIPPINES)
