AN OFFICIAL of the Cebu City Agriculture Department (CAD) said that it will extend its program of providing seeds and seedlings to include every household, not just farmers.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu Friday, April 3, 2020, City Agriculturist Joelito Baclayon has urged the public to get into food production in view of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“Naa ra man sila sa ila balay (they are just at their respective houses), so it’s good time for them to spend it for food production instead,” said Baclayon.

The CAD had long started the program but its main focus was farmers in the city.

Baclayon said the beneficiaries of the program are mostly those living in upland barangays of the city where majority of the food supply are sourced.

Aside from the farmers, Baclayon said schools and members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) were also provided with vegetable seedlings.

The CAD distributes seedlings of eggplant, tomato, bean, kangkong, among other common vegetables.

Those who wants to avail of the program may contact Baclayon through contact numbers 255-5781 or 09175104298. They can also message the CAD on their Facebook page. (JJL)
