Legaspi: Faith and promises

Legaspi: Faith and promises

IN MY distress, I called upon the Lord and He heard me.

Today, we are confronted by a crisis that most of us fear. The fear of the unknown and uncertainty has seeped into our beings. It is already more than two weeks where we are all paralyzed by an enemy that slowly makes us all weak, even in faith.

But we always have to remember that God is there and we only need a strong faith in Him. He was, is and will always be there for all of us. God has never left the call of His people unanswered. We need to remind ourselves that God is there and will never leave us.

All we need to do is to call on Him. The crises around us these past few months are reminders for us to once again go back to God. Before this Covid-19 crisis, how many of us prayed fervently to God? How many of us gave time to be with God in the Blessed Sacrament? How many of us found time to participate in the Mass? Many more questions could be thrown to remind us that God is there but where were we?

The Enhanced Community Quarantine has given us time to renew our relationship with God through our family. It has allowed us to know ourselves well and to go deeper in our relationship with God. It has taught us to call upon God and made us understand that God will always answer our calls.

As one of the priests said that this crisis would upgrade the image of the Church. It will now be a Church-at-home. Our faith will become stronger and our relationship with God will be closer. The Church-at-home will not just be during this crisis but will continue to be it. It will be a smaller community that the Basic Ecclesiastical Communities but it will be more intimate and manageable. In fact, as head of my Church-at-home, I am excited to lead my family to God.

A religious reminds us that Jesus, himself, has given us promises. God never breaks His promises. Allow me to share the beautiful promises of the Sacred Hear of Jesus. These will dispel our fear of the unknown and uncertainty. These will further strengthen our faith in God.

The twelve promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are “ I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.”; “ I will establish peace in their families.”; “I will comfort them in their trials.”; “I will be their secure refuge during life, and, above all, in death.”; “I will shed abundant blessings on all their undertakings. “; “Sinners will find in my heart an infinite ocean of mercy.”; “Lukewarm souls will become fervent.”; “Fervent souls will rapidly grow in holiness and perfection.”; “I will bless every place where an image of my heart shall be exposed and honored.”; “I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.”; “The names of those who promote this devotion will be written in my heart, never to be blotted out.”; and “I promise thee, in the excessive mercy of my heart, that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in my disgrace nor without receiving their sacraments; My divine heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.”

Reflect on these words and you will feel the presence of God.

Sacred hear of Jesus, have mercy on us.
