NBI nabs teacher, 1 other for selling overpriced face masks

AGENTS of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Northern Mindanao have arrested two women for allegedly selling overpriced face masks in an entrapment operation inside a courier company in Yacapin Street, this city on Friday, April 3.

Arrested were Marichu Arias, resident of Tambaling, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental and Jasmin Aquino, of Indahag, Cagayan de Oro.

Authorities seized 16 N95 face masks, 68 disposable face masks in different colors, and 40 assorted washable cloth masks.

Accordingly, the suspects were selling the N95 masks at P235 each while the disposable masks are sold at P40 each.

The NBI-Northern Mindanao said the N95 face masks has price ceiling of P45 as lowest and P105 as highest while disposable face masks has price ceiling of P28 as the highest per DOH memorandum.

Suspects will likely to face charges for violation of section 5 of the Price Act or RA 7581 (Profiteering) in relation to Department of Trade and Industry memorandum circular and Department of Health Memorandum in relation to section 6 of Ra 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
