Cebu bowlers mourn late PBF officer

CEBUANO bowlers mourn the death of bowling godfather Alexander Lim and recalled the good deeds the Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) officer had done for local bowlers.

Formal national youth bowler Xyrra Cabusas said her achievements in bowling were all because of the support of Lim, who has the president of Prima and the treasurer of PBF.

“If not for him, I would not be part of the national team,” Cabusas, who’s now a licensed civil engineer, told SunStar Cebu. “He’s the foundation of my bowling career.”

Cabusas started with Team Prima in 2008 and eventually made it to the national youth team. She also represented the country in the World Youth Championships.

“He’s the reason why players outside of Manila are now competing in the national tournaments. He was the one who told us bowlers from Cebu, Bacolod and Davao to compete in Manila and even outside the country,” she said.

Lim would sponsor local players to compete in Manila or abroad under the banner of Team Prima.

“The trips were sponsored by him, even our hotel accommodations. And If you win, he would never ask anything from you,” she said.

When she first heard the news of Lim’s death on social media, Cabusas did not believe it at first since it was April 1 and she thought it was just a hoax or a joke.

“I did not believe it but when I checked in our Viber Group chat, it was really true. I just cried,” she said.

Lim passed away due to complications brought by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). He was 62. He perished on Wednesday, April, 1, 2020, at the intensive care unit of the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Bel Suelto of the Association of Cebu Bowlers Inc. (ACBI), formerly known as Bowling Tenpin Association of Cebu, said the bowling patron had helped a lot of bowlers including him.

“He sponsored bowlers, including me,” said the former ACBI president.

Lim headed Prima Pasta and the Tenpin Bowling Affiliation of Makati Inc. before being part of the PBF board of trustees. Prior to his death, he was also serving as director of the Asian Bowling Federation and the World Bowling.

“He’s the most generous person I know. In spite of being a famous and super rich person, he was the most humble person I’ve known. All our Sinulog Open Tournament, Prima is always a presentor. For me, he was a luminary, a legend in generosity,” said Suelto.

“Tito Alexander Lim, thank you for everything. You will surely be missed in the entire bowling community. Rest in Peace, Manong,” posted ACBI president Clarence Tiu on Facebook. (RSC)
