Funny shows to watch on Netflix for National Humor Month

WITH the current situation looming, it’s always a good idea to take a break from all the bad news and get distracted with activities you can have fun with. Nothing is more effortless than plopping on the couch, or bed, and watching some shows. So with the month of April hailed as “National Humor Month,” we rounded up some of the many shows Netflix has up its sleeve that may just tickle the funny bone.

Friends

There’s Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross—which one are you? “Friends” remains to be a certified hit that’s never going to go out-of-style thanks to its characters with life experiences that are funny and oftentimes gives its viewers the “feels.” Set in Manhattan, New York—how they were ever able to afford that apartment is still a mystery, TBH.

Kim’s Convenience

The show is about a Canadian-Korean family that runs a convenience store (as the title suggests) with a dynamic that some families might be able to relate to. Underneath the constant bickering between generations lies a lot of love—and a lot of laughs. You’ll also love and laugh at Appa’s no-nonsense, overbearing attitude and want to hug him at the same time for trying to be a good dad.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is a “stupid good” sitcom in a cop show format with lovable characters you’ll be protective of—while yearning for some yogurt. As you watch this show, you can’t help but chant “Nine, Nine!” along and wish to be a part of this goofy bunch with their quick-witted banters while catching bad guys.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

If there’s anyone who reeks of über positivity, it’s Kimmy Schmidt. After being rescued from a doomsday cult along with three other women, how she stayed positive while trapped in a bunker is astounding. Watch four seasons of her restarting her life together with her badass landlady, her vibrant roommate—who is both a mood and moment, and her socialite boss.

Sex Education

The show isn’t just hailed for being funny, more importantly, it is praised for its raw and real depiction of sex along with the struggles that come with being a teen. This coming-of-age series both explicit and lovable will make you emotionally invested in its characters.

The Big Bang Theory

“It all started with the Big Bang” says the lyrics—and the show became a hit. It’s no surprise, as the show features characters so intelligent they make us question how much we know about science, physics and basically everything in life. You’ll laugh at their adorable and awkward moments while admiring this impenetrable bond and probably, at some point, sing Sheldon’s “Soft Kitty” song. Purr, Purr, Purr.

The Good Place

Eleanor Shellstrop wakes up in an office setting and was told she died and is now in “The Good Place” where there’s an abundance of frozen yogurt, flying people and soulmates—only she doesn’t belong there because she was the worst when she was alive. Determined to stay, she seeks the help of her soulmate Chidi on how to be a good person. It’ll make you laugh, feel stuff, while thinking about how being good can make such a difference.
