A QUARRY operator in the hills of San Fernando, southern Cebu continued to support the beneficiaries of its livelihood initiatives by guiding them on how to run the small business enterprises they now operate.

The personnel of Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC) gave San Agustin de Hippo Environmental Stewards members, who are mostly based in Barangay Magsico, a workshop on simple bookkeeping and business management.

SEDC accountants Anne Loren V. Carillo, Hazel G. Geonzon and Klea Sol I. Estrellada taught them. They also taught the recipients of the company's Backyard Hog Raising Livelihood Project in Barangay Tonggo on how to manage their ventures better.

Taking the learning-by-doing tact, the accountants gave the 38 participants exercises to understand the principles better recently at the junior staff house of its primary client, Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI), in Barangay South Poblacion.

The modules ranged from understanding bookkeeping, the use of cash books with proper recording of documents, computation of profit against loss, as well as costing and pricing, bared Mitzie Almira I. Carin, SEDC division manager for human resources and administration.

Delia T. Suico, 60, a widow, said she was so pleased of what she learned.

“Gawas sa pagpamuhi’g baboy, naa man pud koy gamay nga gi tinda-tinda maong gamit gyud kaayu to namo (Other than raising hogs, I also have a sari-sari store. What I learned are so useful)," she said.

She thanked SEDC for the opportunities she gained.

“Sa pagbuhi’g baboy, anaa mi’y kalingawan ug kakuhaan og gamay nga panginabuhian (In raising hogs, we now have something to get busy with and earn a living)," she said.

Lillian May L. Tapuyao, 55, also a housewife, shared she appreciated better how to do things right in doing business.

“Maayo nga i-record gyud tanan cash flow, maka hibaw gyud ka unsay dagan sa imong negosyo, (It is good to record all your cash flow, and you will see how your business fairs)," she said, adding: "Mapasalamaton mi sa SEDC nga ni hatag sila og pamaagi nga adunay panginabuhian ang mga tao dinhi sa purok Gorion,” she added We are very thankful to SEDC for it gave us the means for a living here in Gorion)."

The parish-based Environment Stewards also expressed gratitude for the continued support since more than two years ago when they started producing Mzuri beads from used magazines, and candles from used cooking oil.

They said they will apply what they learned as they also continue to produce specialty paper and paper charcoal from waste paper.
