FOLLOWING reports of violators threatening the lives of barangay watchmen (tanod) in other cities, the Cebu City Government has vowed to protect the safety of tanods, who are force multipliers amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said the welfare of the public, including the barangay tanods, is a priority.

Tumulak is glad that there have been no compaints nor cases of violence against tanods in the city.

“So far we haven’t received any complaints nor reports from the tanods,” Tumulak said.

He said the barangay tanods, barangay officials and volunteers, who are all force multipliers, have close coordination with police personnel.

Inayawan Barangay Captain Kirk Bryan Repollo said he would immediately call the assistance of police officers if the Barangay Hall will receive reports of gatherings like cockpits.

“Then if based sa report is medyo dili ordinary nga pundok-pundok like tari, manawag mi’g back-up nga pulis,” said Repollo.

Inayawan is one of the most populous barangays in Cebu City.

Tumulak has observed that residents in Cebu City, so far, have been cooperative and are following the orders imposed in the city such as the curfew. (JJL)
