Custodio: Covid-19 Thoughts #2

Custodio: Covid-19 Thoughts #2

I KNOW it's been quite a while since we all had the liberty of going out and doing all the things we used to do. I know it has been quite difficult wrapping our brain around the idea that Covid-19 has invaded our midst and has become a formidable invisible enemy trudging around Davao City waiting to victimize anyone that unluckily crosses its path.

By now we all know what we have to do. Like washing our hands with soap and water. Correct? Some have managed to step it up and observe disinfection procedures like taking a full bath before going into the house. Foot baths are good too as well as disinfecting your groceries before storing them. There are proper guidelines available for all these (especially for food) so please take the time to learn them.

I am quite happy to see that most people now realize the importance of social distancing. Ideally, social distancing is maintaining a radius of 6 feet from each other (yes radius! That's 6 feet from all sides!) but a meter is better than nothing. It would be great if you can observe this at all times (even at home) but you definitely have to observe this when you are out in public, including your respective workplaces. Social distancing basically there will be no handshakes, hugs, and kisses. I know this is quite next to impossible if you are the touchy-feely type but try harder, okay? Social distancing is important because it decreases the possibility of transmission.

Stay at home guys! I don't care if you have heard this so many times that you're starting to have nightmares about it. I would rather that you have a bad dream about it than actually living it! You would be living under a rock (or be in total l denial) if you remain unaware of how difficult and fatal this virus is. I have friends and colleagues who suffered from it. Some have survived but there are those who did not. It is both traumatic and heartbreaking when it hits home so please do all you can to keep this nightmarish possibility away from you and your family.

I know it still feels so unreal. Surreal. But when you step out of the house and find you're practically driving or walking through a ghost town, it hits you that Covid is real. It has changed how we go about our lives. It will remain so as long as there are non-compliant citizens out there (and I mean globally).

In a way, the ghost town feel is good, right? Then why are you out driving?
