THE Tatak Kalamay, a movement composed of sugar industry stakeholders, has given over 11,000 liters of ethyl alcohol all over Negros Island amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Its latest distribution was at the borders of Mabinay in Negros Oriental intended for various local government units (LGUs).

Tatak Kalamay delivered 13 containers filled with 200 liters of alcohol each at the Negros Oriental Command Center over the weekend.

Four containers were intended for the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental and one each for the cities of Bais, Tanjay, Dumaguete, Bayawan, Canlaon and Guihulngan.

The municipalities for Valle Hermoso, Pamplona and Mabinay also got one container each.

Tatak Kalamay representatives Paul Azcona and Julian Gatuslao, along with Kabilog-PA representatives Justin Maravilla and Luis Azcona, turned over the alcohol to the designated rescue units of recipient-LGUs.

Its spokesperson Dave Alba said the distribution is part of the sugar industry’s effort to help address Covid-19 crisis.

“We thank all our members including those in Negros Oriental and Luzon who have been doing their share in helping their respective communities,” he said.

Alba added that this all started in response to the call of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri who called on industry leaders to extend help in Negros Island as well as in other sugar producing provinces.

Tatak Kalamay, so far, has already distributed a total of 56 drums of alcohol all over Negros.

All 31 towns and cities in Negros Occidental including major hospitals and law enforcement agencies, among others were also among the recipients. (EPN)
