LTO offers quarters for CCMC workers

THE Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO 7) is offering to convert the second floor of its Malasakit Lounge at the LTO regional office on N. Bacalso Avenue as sleeping quarters for medical personnel working at the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Victor Caindec, LTO 7 director, told reporters the decision was reached due to the Cebu-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) affecting the availability of public transportation needed by health frontliners.

Caindec said the sleeping quarters will be particularly useful for health personnel working at the CCMC, which is just adjacent to the LTO 7 office.

Caindec said they have prepared 12 bunk beds and 10 to 15 lounging chairs for the CCMC frontliners.

The Malasakit Lounge also has bathrooms ready for their use.

Caindec said one of the features of the Malasakit Lounge is a body misting bath and foot bath to disinfect those entering the building.

Caindec said a memorandum of agreement between LTO 7 and CCMC on the latter’s use of the lounge is still being finalized.

The facility is set to be operational within the week.

Caindec requested medical personnel who will use the Malasakit Lounge to follow the “Clean as You Go” policy and urged them not to leave their belongings there.

“(It will) open 24/7 with access control by CCMC and LTO 7,” said Caindec.

Aside from the Malasakit Lounge, the LTO 7 is set to launch the services of its Malasakit Bus for health workers living in the cities of Talisay and Mandaue.

LTO 7 will deploy two buses, one in Starmall, Talisay City, and the other in Pacific Mall, Mandaue City, to ferry health workers in need of transportation. (HBL / JKV)
