More quarantine violators arrested in Eastern Visayas

THE Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas has recorded more arrests for violation of the community quarantine policies, which have been implemented due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“I sincerely invoke the whole support of the public. Please stay at your homes. It is your biggest share in containing the spread of this pandemic,” said Brigadier General Bernabe Balba, police regional director.

As of March 15 to 31 alone, police have arrested 226 violators from the different provinces and cities in the region.

Of the 226 violators, 49 were from Leyte, 28 from Southern Leyte, 14 from Biliran, five from Samar, 46 from Eastern Samar, 73 from Northern Samar, eight from Tacloban City, and three from Ormoc City.

At least 12 of the arrested violators were identified as persons under monitoring (PUMs).

Following the implementation of community quarantine, each local government unit in the region has its own adaptation or modifications of the directive.

“Thus, in compliance to such, anyone who violates said directive is subject for arrest after giving a stern warning,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, police regional spokesperson.

The arrested persons will face charges for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) or “Resistance and Disobedience to an Agent of a Person in Authority and the Implementation of Curfew.”
