A FACILITY to house patients under investigation (PUI) for Covid-19 is being pushed in Benguet.

Governor Melchor Diclas said the proposed facility for the province to house PUIs with mild symptoms for the duration of the quarantine period is being studied to avoid exposure to the community.

Diclas added eyed facility is owned by the Benguet State University (BSU) which has earlier agreed for the use of the structure for Covid-19 cases and is preparing the memorandum of agreement between the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) and the Provincial Government on the use of the facility.

The governor remains bullish for the facility to become functional and has designated the Provincial Health Office to manage it adding the procurement of beds, installation of water facilities and the setup of fencing is also needed on its perimeters.

At the start of the week, April 6, there are 28 admitted PUIs at the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) and can accommodate up to 40 more patients.

Based on Covid-19 regional update by the Department of Health Cordillera there are 414 PUIs, with 170 asked to undergo home quarantine with 219 were discharged also on Monday, April 6.

Diclas said there are no testing kits for BeGH as all samples are being submitted to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) which was recently certified as a testing center where it can now process Covid–19 test results without the need of sending lab specimens to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila for the third confirmatory test.
