Police officer to face charges for extortion

POLICE Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro will fire the police officer from the Waterfront police station apprehended during the entrapment operation on Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2020.

Police Corporal Wenefredo Olongayo was apprehended by members of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group with the help of the Regional Special Operations Group 7 in Sitio Silangan 1, Brgy. Tejero in Cebu City, after asking for an air conditioning unit from the sibling of an inmate who was convicted for illegal drugs.

According to Ferro, Olangayo will be facing criminal and administrative charges and he will make sure that he is permanently dismissed from duty.

The general is disappointed that even amid a global health crisis, there are members of the police force who would take advantage of the situation.

The general has constantly reminded his staff to never, in any way, compromise their job, which includes never accepting bribes from illegal drugs or gambling.

Ferro believes there are still police officers who have not changed their corrupt ways. This is why he is intent on disciplining personnel who are involved in anything illegal.

Part of the general’s policies in his administration is building the good cop image, creating a positive and friendly reputation for the police.

Olangayo’s service firearms have been confiscated and he has been confined in the PRO 7 detention cell while waiting for his case to be filed by his colleagues. (AYB with CBQ)
