POEA suspends overseas deployment of healthcare workers

THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has suspended the overseas deployment of healthcare workers for the duration of the national state of emergency arising from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis.

In a resolution passed by the POEA Governing Board on April 2, 2020, the agency listed 14 occupations that are considered “mission-critical skills” and thus, covered by the suspension.

These are:

  • Medical doctor/physician
  • Nurse
  • Microbiologist
  • Molecular biologist
  • Medical technologist
  • Clinical analyst
  • Respiratory therapist
  • Pharmacist
  • Laboratory technician
  • X-ray/radiologic technician
  • Nursing assistant / Nursing aide
  • Operator of medical equipment
  • Supervisor of health services and personal care; and
  • Repairman of medical-hospital equipment.
