NegOcc ranks 2nd in region’s high rabies cases

NEGROS Occidental ranked second to Iloilo province with the most number of rabies cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded three cases or rabies in Bacolod City, second to the 11 positive cases in Iloilo City.

One positive case was recorded in Aklan, two in Antique, one in Capiz, and three in Bacolod City, DOH Regional Director Ariel Valencia said.

Meanwhile, Valencia said the Philippines will get a share of some $2.3 million from the $10 million budget from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to fund projects in the 15 provinces in the Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

The DOH is maintaining 39 animal bite centers that conduct free rabies vaccination throughout the region.
