IN KEEPING with its commitment no one will get hungry in a time of Covid-19, the Davao City Government now serves hot meals in 13 barangays of Paquibato District through community cooking.
The community cooking was organized by the Davao City Peace 911 for Paquibato District to serve rice porridge (lugaw) to residents in the city's peace and development pilot area during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
"The Peace 911 has identified areas where the barangays can conduct community cooking. Each area will prepare one flagon of lugaw per day and will be distributed every other day for four times a week," Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said over Davao City Disaster Radio.
The mayor initiated the Peace 911 as a peace and development tool to address the root causes of insurgency in Paquibato District by providing government services and livelihood programs to the people. Peace 911 was launched by the City Government in 2018.
Peace 911 focal person Roger Baay said his team has delivered over the weekend ingredients for the lugaw.
Paquibato District is allocated a total of 52 sacks of rice per week for the community cooking, targeting 3,120 Paquibato residents per distribution day.
"The community cooking is established to ensure that no person, especially in far-flung barangays in Paquibato District will get hungry," Baay said.
Serving hot meals is one of the City Government's four food aid programs for Dabawenyos affected by the preventive measures during the implementation of ECQ.
The three other programs are the food ration run by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the Agri-food Program jointly implemented by the City Agriculturist's Office and the City Veterinarian's Office, and the rice distribution by the barangays. (PR)
