DTI, partners produce, donate face shields

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), with the support of its public and private partner-agencies and companies, has so far donated more than 3,000 face shields to frontliners in Zamboanga Peninsula.

DTI Regional Director Ceferino Rubio said Monday, April 13, the face shields were produced out of the materials provided to the fabrication laboratories (FabLabs) for the production of face shields and were given for free to the frontliners in the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Rubio said the materials they provided to FabLabs included density fiber boards, Polymerizing Vinyl Chloride (PVC) clear covers, garters, and permanent markers.

Rubio added the production of face shields is done at the 8M Shared Service Facility (SSF) FabLab at the Zamboanga City State Poytechnic College, Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) in Dapitan City, and Josefina H. Cerilles State College in Pagadian City.

He said among those who received face shields are various non-government agencies, local government units, hospitals, regional health units, and policemen and soldiers deployed in boundary checkpoints.

Meanwhile, DTI Assistant Regional Director Al-Zamir Lipae encouraged all sectors to donate any of the needed materials for the continuous production of face shields as the enhanced community quarantine has been extended. (SunStar Zamboanga)
