Lacson, Benitez ask Bacolod execs to review ECQ pass

GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson and provincial consultant for Economic Affairs and Investments Promotion Alfredo Benitez are asking the Bacolod City officials to review the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) Pass especially on vehicles carrying food, agricultural products and other essential goods.

This after the provincial officials said they received complaints about barring the said vehicles at some checkup points.

Lacson said vehicles carrying those goods including livestock, poultry and fish, sugarcane and other essentials issued with Provincial ECQ should be allowed entry and exit in Bacolod City including empty trucks coming from the sugar mills.

“I hope Bacolod City would grant our request. Those issued with Provincial ECQ pass are only passing through Bacolod City going to their farms in northern or southern Negros. It is not intended to loiter within Bacolod City,” Lacson added.

Benitez, on the other hand, said more discussions with the city officials about the matter is important.

“We are always advocating that Bacolod City is not an independent jurisdiction. It is connected to the province so we would like to move as one, that is really more of a suggestion,” Benitez said.

Provincial Incident Management Team Commander Jonathan Lobaton revealed that based on his meeting with Bacolod City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan he was told that Provincial ECQ Pass holders should also observe the numbers scheme required when passing through or travelling Bacolod City. Vehicles having plate numbers ending with odd numbers 1,3,5,7,9 will be allowed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday while those ending with even numbers 0,2,4,6,8 are allowed every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday while on Sundays everyone should stay at home.

Exempted are sugarcane trucks and haulers, vehicles loaded with food, agricultural products, fruits, fish and other essential goods.
