Transport groups to rally vs political terrorism

LEADERS of 12 local transport organizations based in Iloilo City said it will hold Friday an “indignation and condemnation rally” against political violence and rising terrorism in the city at Plazoleta Gay here.

Dubbed as the Black Friday Peoples Rally, the activity will be augmented with the blowing of horns at specified hour by more than 5,000 city loop passenger vehicles and taxi units plying in city roads.

Nicasio Dalisay, president of the Iloilo City Alliance of Drivers Association and Benjie Calvel, president of the Alliance of Panay Taxi Operators and Drivers Association jointly said political terrorism and wanton abuse of power of some candidates and their supporters are inimical to the basic rights and welfare of the people.

This after a grenade was thrown at Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas’ ancestral house, which threatens not only the mayor and his family but also to the public, the group said.

Earlier, the transport leaders jointly issued a solidarity statement dated March 17 condemning the use of political terrorism relating to the May 10 elections.

The groups also call for the end of violence and abuse of power here and asked policemen and officials of the Iloilo City Police Office to act professionally in addressing the timely crime solution of a series of violent incidents in the city.
