ISLAND Garden City of Samal's Aglipay Oberio topped the fourth APM Blitz Online Chess Tournament held over lichess.org recently.
Oberio, with user name aglipay_oberio, garnered a total of 38 points after 14 matches to upset national master (NM) Levi Mercado of Cagayan de Oro City and Fide master (FM) Alekhine Nouri who took the next two places.
Mercado (cecillejane) and Nouri (FMalekhineNouri) scored identical 28 points but the former edged the latter via superior tiebreaks based on performance, 2504-2481.
The Samal chesser eked out 11 victories, drew one match and lost two games.
He demolished Jeremy Marticio, Suyong, MindTeaser, Allan Gabriel Hilario, Noel Dela Cruz, NM Alexander Lupian, Ronald Adaya, Den-Den (twice), Nouri and Rondar Raffy Tivar.
Oberio halved point with Nouri in his 14th assignment and he also succumbed to the latter in his opening match. His other defeat was at the hands of player with username Den-Den.
Oberio received P200, while Mercado had P150 and Nouri settled for P50 in the tournament organized by national arbiter Ely Acas.
Meanwhile, Marlowe Cagulada of Davao City clinched the title of the recently concluded fifth APM Blitz Online Chess Tournament also held via lichess.org.
Cagulada ruled the chessfest by tallying 36 points in 12 outings, while Don Tyrone Delos Santos bagged the runner-up honors with 34 points and Noel dela Cruz placed third (32 points).
The Dabawenyo only yielded to Randolph Dalauta in his fifth game but he swept all his 13 other matches.
The top three winners claimed mobile loads of P70, P50 and P30.
