THE massive swab testing in Sitio Zapatera, Barangay Luz, Cebu City will now be stopped, said Cebu City Health Officer Daisy Villa.

Villa said this was the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) since the whole sitio is now considered infected.

Villa said this was the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) while waiting for the results of the remaining swab samples sent to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) sub-national laboratory.

With the number of coronavirus infections in Sitio Zapatera, Villa said the spread of the virus in the area is evident, emphasizing that the CHD recorded infected residents from both ends and at the center part of the sitio.

On April 15, 2020, the Cebu City Health Department (CHD) got 200 swab samples from residents in the sitio and Villa said that will be the last batch of swab samples taken from the residents in the area.

She said the whole sitio will still be strictly monitored and doctors from the CHD will continue to visit the area.

She said they will now focus on getting swab samples in other areas in the city where there are Covid-19 cases.

As of April 16, Sitio Zapatera has a total of 53 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients.

Of the 53, 51 are asymptomatic, while two are symptomatic -- one is currently admitted at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and the other one is having a fever.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said all the asymptomatic Covid-19 patients will be brought to Bario Luz National High School, while the symptomatic will be transferred to the quarantine facility in the old campus of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu on Gen. Maxilom Ave. which is expected to be operational on Saturday, April 18.

The two nine-month-old babies who are twins and the youngest Covid-positive patients in the city will be brought to the isolation room of Cebu City Medical Center, said Labella. (JJL)
