Gwen offers Cebu City help

THE Cebu Provincial Government has offered an evacuation center in Barangay Busay as a facility for asymptomatic patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Cebu City.

In her regular live news conference through Sugbo News on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said the Department of Health (DOH) 7 is overseeing works to ensure that the facility will be fit for occupation to accommodate additional Covid-19 patients.

"We have seen the need for the Province of Cebu to help by offering a facility where we can put Covid positive cases (in Cebu City) that are asymptomatic or mild,” Garcia said in Cebuano.

Garcia was referring to the evacuation center identified in February 2020 as the Capitol's third designated quarantine facility for returning Filipinos and Permanent Visa holders amid the threat of the Covid-19.

The facility, located in Barangay Busay, Cebu City, was built by the Office of Civil Defense on a province-owned lot.

"Kung inyong mahinumduman, nagamit kini kadtong nadagsaan ta diri og mga dili taga Cebu apan gikinahanglan i-kwarantina hangtod nga ato silang mapadala sa Davao. Adtong panahona, medyo nadali-dali gyud to nato og andam para lang nila maong daghan kaayo og reklamo, tagawtaw, kay dili murag hotel ang maong pasilidad," Garcia recalled.

This time, though, the Governor assured that the facility will be fit for occupation.

Garcia met with DOH 7 Director Jaime Bernadas and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 Director Edgar Tabacon to discuss improvements needed in the facility.

Dividers and road repair works will be handled by the DPWH while the DOH will supervise other preparations needed.

Meanwhile, local government units under the Province of Cebu have designated local gyms, unused buildings and even resorts as their facility for persons diagnosed with Influenza-like illness. (RTF)
