RESIDENTS of Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City expressed their fears that garbage trucks going inside their village to dispose garbage at the transfer station may bring the new coronavirus.

Inayawan Barangay Captain Kirk Bryan Repollo said that the fears stem from the fact that garbage trucks ply to various roads of the city and it enters the barangay premises without any precautionary measures.

Repollo feared that some of the trucks might come from barangays where there are Covid-19 positive patients.

“So ang mahitabo ani karon, kami pa ang tigdawat sa basura, dili sad imposible nga kami sad ang tigdawat sa virus. Simbako lang intawn! Hastang kaluoy sa Inayawnons. So Inayawan nalang jod mi permi?” Wrote Repollo on his Facebook page on April 16, 2020.

(So it has come to this, we receive city trash we are also likely to "receive" the virus. Good Lord! I pity the Inayawnons. So are we always going to stay in Inayawan?)

Repollo suggested that the City Government should install disinfection stations in all the entry points of barangays where garbage trucks will be disinfected before it enters the village.

He added that he is open to a discussion regarding the City's concrete plans to address their concern.

Repollo said garbage trucks have been going in and out of their barangay 24 hours a day, but there were no precautionary measures taken to address the matter.

He added since the enhanced community quarantine was implemented in the city, he has not heard any plans from the City regarding such concern. (JJL)
