Mayor assures Candabeños: ‘No one will get hungry during ECQ’

AMID the uncertainties brought about by the virus pandemic, Mayor Rene Maglanque of Candaba town assured his constituents that the local government will continue to look after them during the stretch of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Maglanque made the statement as he commenced the fourth wave of relief goods distribution to villages Mandasig and Pansinao Thursday morning, April 16.

He said the local government has been consistent in providing relief assistance to the 35,000 families in town since the Luzon-wide lockdown was enacted.

“On the first week, we distributed duck eggs that we bought from the raisers who were affected by the lockdown. The next two weeks, we gave out chicken, rice and egg,” Maglanque said.

For the fourth wave, each Candabeño family from the 33 barangays here will be receiving five kilos of rice and a kilo of fresh pork meat.

Tricycle drivers, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities have also received additional assistance government, Maglanque furthered.

For the fifth week, Maglanque added that he is eyeing the distribution of beef to provide variety of food to Candabeños.

Meanwhile, Maglanque said he is in continuous coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and other government agencies which can help provide assistance to residents of this town.

“The local government is partnering with DOLE under their TUPAD program for those whose livelihood were displaced by enhanced community quarantine, and with DSWD for the Social Amelioration Program,” he said.

For those who will not be included in the said programs, Maglanque said he will be utilizing the funds from the Bayanihan to Cities and Municipalities grant to assist them.

“We are putting everything in place to ensure that everybody will get assistance from the government, both in the form of relief goods and cash grants. Rests assured that the local government will not let any Candabeño starve during and even after this health crisis,” he said.
