Frontliner is Sto. Tomas town’s first Covid-19 patient

A FRONTLINER based in Bataan province is the first confirmed case of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) of Sto. Tomas town.

According to Mayor Gloria “Ninang” Ronquillo, the local government was notified by Department of Health of the confirmed case on Thursday after the results of patient’s swab test turned out positive.

Although the patient is currently based in Bataan, the patient was tagged in this town since his official residence remains in Sto. Tomas.

“The patient is currently not in Sto. Tomas because he is admitted in isolation at the Bataan General Hospital where he and his family lives nearby,” Ronquillo said.

However, the mayor disclosed that the patient went home in this town on April 4 to 5 to visit his parents.

“But there is nothing to worry because our chief of police has already started tracing those who had close contact with the patient and put them on home quarantine,” Ronquillo said.

She added that the local government has prepared the soon-to-be-completed Sto. Tomas General Hospital to become a quarantine facility for probable cases in this town.

Meanwhile, Ronquillo asked Tomasians to continue abiding by the regulations being implemented in line with the existing enhanced community quarantine.

She stressed that the local government is enacting all possible measures to contain the virus and safeguard the people from the disease.

“We were Covid-19 free for almost five weeks since the enhanced community quarantine was put in place and although we had a first confirmed case today, the patient is based in Bataan. But we should not be complacent and step-up our preventive measures to ensure Tomasians will be infected by the disease,” she said.
