BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong assured the public that the process arranging a decent death from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has been arranged.
Magalong said the two crematoriums in the city have been alerted to accept deaths from the virus as well as those suspected cases.
The mayor said there is a funeral home likewise tasked to facilitate the process of transporting deaths caused by Covid-19.
“We have given them personal protective gear, we are making sure that the people there are equipped,” Magalong said.
Magalong added La Funeraria Paz has been identified as the official facility to respond to confirmed and suspected Covid–19 deaths in this time of the pandemic.
“We have to adhere to the 12-hour rule but at the same time we have to be sensitive to the cultural tradition of our Muslim brothers,” Magalong added.
The rule mandates there is a strict 12-hour window period for both suspected and confirmed Covid deaths to undergo cremation with handlers mandated to wear protective gear to avoid contamination and spread of the virus.
Magalong added there is so far one early Covid–19 death recorded where the crematorium has been used citing the first suspected case of the government employee who died with Covid-19 symptoms but with test results arriving after her demise with positive results.
