Five ways to enjoy summer at home

Five ways to enjoy summer at home

IT’S almost a month since the enhanced community quarantine started in Cebu. Everyone’s daily routine has been affected and lots of plans were canceled including summer plans. But that doesn’t mean that summer fun is also canceled. Since each and everyone is stuck at home, why not make most of your time and create a summer to remember with your family?

Here are five summer ideas you can try in the comfort of your own home.

Pool Party

Beach trip canceled? Wear your swimwear and set up your inflatable pool at your backyard or inside your home. Whether you’ve got a kiddie-sized or extra-large inflatable pool, now is the perfect time to make a splash with an epic backyard bash. If you have a swimming pool, just set the mood and let the family know how big of a splash they’re in for with festive summer accents. Offer summer treats and ice-cold drinks to beat the heat. You can also set up a grill station to complete the escapade.

Backyard Camping

Fancy sleeping under the moon and stars? Set up the tent at your backyard and enjoy the best of both worlds: The convenience of your home and exploring nature up close. The best thing about backyard camping is that you have easy access to everything: Clean bathroom, stocked fridge, clothes and unlimited water supply. Organize fun games such as treasure hunts, water gun or balloon fights etc. At night time, create a little campfire, gather around and sing campfire songs together or exchange some stories. And, before you sleep, enjoy the night sky tracing and naming the constellations you see.

Online Cooking Class

Supposed to go to another country like Japan to learn how to cook ramen, okonomiyaki or to make sushi in a traditional way? Why not push through with your plan, and do it in your very own kitchen. There are so many online cooking classes you can check on YouTube like Erwann Heusaff’s channel, Gordon Ramsay’s or Tasty’s.

Gardening

Since visiting botanical gardens and farms is strictly prohibited, why not create your own? Gardening is highly encouraged nowadays to become more self-sufficient. No backyard? No problem! Use urban gardening to grow your own food and to add greenery to even the smallest place. Here are some easy fruits, herbs and vegetables to grow: Potatoes, carrots, onions, mung beans, mint, lettuce and garlic.

Movie Night

Obviously, cinema houses are temporarily closed. Hold a movie night in your home or a movie premiere night to make it more extra. Much better if you have a projector but if you don’t have one, use your television or laptop. Make everyone excited by creating a theme for your movie night, like for example, if you’re going to watch “Star Wars,” you can decorate the venue with DIY “Star Wars”-inspired decor. Prepare popcorn, chips and ice-cold water or juice. To make the preparation easier, you can assign who’s going to set up, decorate and prepare food because teamwork makes the dream (movie night) work. Ask everyone to dress up to make it merrier.
