FOUR puroks located in two separate barangays in Davao City have been placed on lockdown as a preventive measure against the spread of the new virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
In a statement, the City Government of Davao said it has placed Purok 3, 4, and 7 of Barangay 23-C and Purok of 8 of Barangay 21-C on lockdown.
“The action was taken to preempt a possible massive spread of the infection in the area due to a confirmed positive case,” the City Government said in two separate statements posted on its official Facebook account.
Fifty-six individuals from the three puroks in Barangay 23-C have also been brought for quarantine in one of the PUI (patients under investigation) centers of the city.
The city has advised the residents of Davao City to avoid Barangays 23-C and 21-C.
The two barangays are located within the Poblacion District of Davao City.
According to the data of the Southern Philippines Medical Center, as of April 18, 2020, there are 11 positive cases of Covid-19 in the Poblacion district. Poblacion is one of three districts in the city with the most number of Covid-19 cases. The other two are Talomo with 28 positive cases and Buhangin with 24 cases. These areas have been considered as hotspots in the city due to the number of cases.
However, this could already change following the release of the Department of Health-Davao Region’s (DOH-Davao) latest data of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Davao Region.
Data from DOH-Davao showed that as of April 21, 2020, there are already 113 confirmed cases in the region, five of which are new. The most number of cases are in Davao City with 97, followed by Davao del Norte (9), Davao Oriental (3), Davao de Oro (2), and Davao del Sur (2). To date, no cases have been reported in Davao Occidental.
Regional data also shows that there are 59 recoveries and 16 deaths in the region.
