A NEWBORN baby boy is now the youngest coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patient in Central Visayas, the Department of Health (DOH) 7 said, Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH 7 director, said the baby boy is one of the new seven cases recorded in Cebu City on Tuesday. The DOH 7 said the infant was tested after his mother showed symptoms of the disease. However, Bernadas said the presence of a newborn case in the region needs further validation on how transmission occurred since the mother tested negative.

The DOH 7 did not specify as to which barangay in Cebu City the mother and the newborn child reside.

Bernadas then urged pregnant women to continue monitoring themselves as they have “a more than usual vulnerability.”

Those taking care of or living with pregnant women are advised to “exert extra care to prevent transmitting any infection to them by practicing proper hand washing, physical distancing and not going near them if you are not feeling well.”

A total of 12 new names were added to the regional tally of Covid-19 patients in Central Visayas on Tuesday. This brought the total number of coronavirus-positive individuals in the region to 203.

Seven of the new cases were recorded in Cebu City, three in Mandaue City and two new cases in Lapu-Lapu City. (WBS)
