Tell it to SunStar: Reason for the postponement

CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella should have waited for the National Government’s announcement.

The deadline of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was originally set on April 12 before President Rodrigo Duterte moved it to April 30.

The date is less than a week away and the Palace is bound to make one.

It would have been more prudent for local chief executives to wait until then because Duterte is, after all, the country’s President. Unless there is something Labella is not telling his constituents.

The mayor had a netizen arrested and charged for allegedly spreading fake news that the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) was running rampant in Sitio Zapatera, Barangay Luz.

There is no word yet on the actual number of the infected in the area, but it must be alarming, especially with the discovery of a Covid-19 outbreak at the Cebu City Jail a few days later, because why else would Labella move the deadline of the ECQ in Cebu City to May 15?
