DOH confirms second Covid-19 case in Leyte

ANOTHER patient from Burauen, Leyte has tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19), making her the second confirmed case in the province and the seventh case in Eastern Visayas.

Dr. Minerva Molon, Department of Health (DOH) regional director, identified the patient as 25-year-old female and a close contact of patient number five from Burauen.

Her result arrived on Friday, April 24, along with 34 other specimens from the batch 11 samples sent to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City last April 20 through the Philippine Air Force.

She manifested symptoms of cough and sore throat on April 18, and a swab sample was taken from her the following day.

"Currently, the patient is isolated in their municipal isolation unit. As of this time, the office is closely coordinating with the provincial health office for the possible transfer of the patient to the local government unit managed district hospital," Molon said.

Also on Friday, April 24, DOH sent the batch 12 samples comprised of 133 specimens from the contact tracing in Tarangnan, Samar and from other areas.

Meanwhile, the health official reminded the public to cooperate with the authorities and follow the quarantine protocol.

"From the beginning, we've been calling the public to stay home. If we stay, we cannot infect others, and from there we can stop the transmission and spread in early stage," said Molon in a statement. (SunStar Philippines)
