'Wakwak' is a peeping tom?

MANY stories about “wakwak” or Philippine ghoul can be read about anywhere, but the incident last Saturday, April 25, involving a 'wakwak' in the coastal area of Barangay Matina Aplaya, Talomo District, Davao City is one of a kind because allegedly many netizens have documented its presence through videos which were even posted on social media, specifically Facebook.

In one of the video posted by Xaneng Uror, a resident of the area, it can be seen that many people, presumably residents in the area, have converged in one spot bearing flashlights and whips and bats while searching for the ghoul, which is said to have landed atop the houses' roof.

The video also shows several individuals who allegedly testified that they saw the real face of the ghoul, which is said to be "rugged".

Because of the "wakwak" attack, Sunstar Superbalita took the comments of several netizens in the Davao City Cluster War FB page.

Many said they don't believe in the incident because they have not seen the ghoul in the video, while some also believe that the "wakwak" was only a peeping tom (voyeur) who ran and hid after sensing that several residents are after him bearing paddles ready to beat him up.

Others also said that the supposed "wakwak" hid from the authorities because he was not following the ECQ rules, while others believe that it was only a cat running fast at the rooftop after several people are chasing it, saying that if it were really a "wakwak" it should have flown away, not run.

However, it was also noted that several netizens did not agree with how the residents responded with the incident as the social distancing policy was not followed anymore.

In the follow up reports of Superbalita, the residents said there was no "wakwak" that was caught after that incident.
