Pelco 1 gives free electricity, sacks of rice, PPEs to consumers

IN ITS bid to help its member-consumer-owners in this time of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the Pampanga 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Pelco 1) is providing free electricity and discounts for the April billing which shall be automatically deducted and reflected on their billing statements.

According to Remiluz Maglaqui, the officer-in-charge general manager of the said electric cooperative, Pelco 1, thru its Board of Directors’ resolution which approved the electricity subsidy, is waiving its collection for electricity bills of residential consumers with consumptions from 0 to 35 kilowatt hour (KWH), a discount of P200 for those consumptions ranges from 36 to 50 KWH and a discount of P250 for those with consumptions ranges from 51 KWH and above.

Consumers having their average bills of less than 35 KWH per month are called life-liners and with this program, they shall be the ones who shall benefit much. Pelco 1 has residential consumers numbering to about 98,758 in all its franchise areas.

In an interview with Maglaqui, this is just one among the many corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs of the electric cooperative especially in these times when the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is implemented by the national government due to the spread of the coronavirus.

“Ito po ay isa sa mga CSR program ng Pelco 1 na tinatawag na Pantawid Liwanag na naglalayong makatulong sa kanyang mga residential consumers lalo na po nitong panahon ng lockdown sa buong bansa bilang isang inisyatibo ng mga Board of Directors at ng Management ng kooperatiba”, quips Maglaqui.

Meanwhile, Pelco 1 board president Edgardo Sagum added that Pelco 1 Board of Directors and employees has pooled in money from their personal pockets and purchased 372 sacks of rice that were donated to the municipalities of Arayat, Candaba, Magalang, Mexico, San Luis and Sta. Ana that shall be distributed to the most affected by the ECQ within the electric cooperative’s coverage areas.

In addition, the said power distribution firm also donated personal protective equipment to frontliners of medical institutions in the said towns.
