Moreno seeks IATF guidance on reopening strategy

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said he is seeking guidance from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the possible reopening of some establishments in the city anytime soon.

Moreno said this after receiving more than 20 letters from various enterprises asking for guidance from the City Government for their plans to reopen even on a graduated scale.

"We'll take this up kay lagi kinahanglan nga ato sang tan-awon nga dili ba ma-ligpit ang ekonomiya (We'll take this up because we have to see to it the economy won't be compromised) and give the people the chance but without sacrificing the health and safety of the people. It can be very challenging but it's something that we have to address, how can we restore our economic situation and hopefully for another rebound of the city and the region," Moreno said during the regular press conference on the Covid-19 updates on Tuesday, April 28.

Moreno said reopening is possible but guidelines of the Department of Health and IATF must still be strictly observed, such as physical distancing and still a skeletal workforce.

"The entire country is looking at that because it's hard that the paralysis of our economy continues unnecessarily. So we are seeking guidance from the IATF," Moreno said.

Last week, MalacaƱang announced that Misamis Oriental is considered as among the moderate-risk areas but are still subject for evaluation whether to implement enhanced community quarantine or enforce general community quarantine.

Reopening plans of the City Government was halted after Cagayan de Oro logged its first death of the Covid-19 last week.
