CONGRATULATIONS to the new lawyers.

The University of Saint La Salle College of Law in Bacolod City has again produced 13 new bar passers and a 10th placer in the Bar examinations held in 2019.

Bebelan Madera emerged as the 10th bar passer who got a rating of 87.3795 percent.

Other bar passers are Saviya Basilie O. Albestor, White Roy S. Balicas, Jeremae Ann T. Ceriaco, Lodelyn S. Chua, Japheth B. Cua, Denyri R. Dumancas, Jenelle M. Esonga, Mark Steven S. Mayo, Emmanuel L. Palma, Jr., Annie Rose B. Rosales, Rey-an N. Trinidad and Re Charles P. Tupas.

On the other hand, the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos College of Law has delivered 10 bar passers.

They are Jose Jireh Alimon, Joseph Mark Antonio, Elijah Bactol, Jay-ann Ditchella, Leonie Vee Garanzo-Apuhin, Rene Jayme, Junry Malagsic, Rovi Grace Mendoza, Mary Rose Ann Tamabnillo and Amor Leilani Tayo.

Madera said: "I am thankful and overwhelmed by the experience that I was included in the top 10 bar passers. I never expected that to happen. I struggled during the process and I just capitalized on what I had learned from law school. I focused on questions that I was knowledgeable about and never dwelt on reading those that I hardly comprehend. I learned from past experiences of bar examinees that they read everything and ended up failing to pass. Most of them were drained by information overload and that's why I avoided those instances and focused on those that I am capable of answering. I did not read everything but I only focused on what I can resolve."

She said it was never easy because she also has her limitations. But she just believed that in all the things that she studied and learned in school, there were those that will be included in the examination.

Having self doubts, she prayed harder. She had withstood some body ailments but she survived it.

"It was through prayers that made me strive to reach the finish line," she added.

She has no concrete plans yet but she considers entering the Public Attorney's Office (PAO) so that she will be honed to serve as a trial lawyer.

"I also would like to venture to enter corporate lawyering because of my background as a certified public accountant (CPA). I want to incorporate my knowledge of law and accounting. But I am open to all possibilities," Madera said.

She thanked her USLS College of Law family and to their Dean Gonzaga for their full support as well as to the Bacolod community, adding: "I am thankful for their prayers and their support. They can say that, academically, we are at par with the Manila law schools."

She is also thankful to her family for the love and support they gave her until she fulfilled her dream of becoming a lawyer.

Moreover, USLS College of Law Dean Rosanne Juliana Rojas Gonzaga said the USLS College of Law faculty, law alumni, J.D. student body together with the USLS Academic community are humbled and thankful to our Lord for this blessing received.

"We pray that we continue to provide quality and a well-rounded legal education guided by the Lasallian values of faith, service and communion. Congratulations to all our USLS 2019 bar passers. Animo La Salle Bacolod," she said.

Atty. Ralph A. Sarmiento, former Dean of the USLS College of Law, said of the 13 bar passers from USLS, six are elite mooters of the USLS College of Law.
