‘Drink responsibly, or else’

THE chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has made it clear that anyone caught drinking outside of their homes will be arrested after Mayor Edgar Labella signed a new executive order allowing the selling of alcohol.

Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, CCPO chief, said though Executive Order No. 73 of Labella allows Cebu City residents to buy alcohol, this is on the condition that the consumption be done at home.

However, if anyone will go out late at night and drunk, Ligan said the police will arrest them and file charges.

“If they go out drunk, that’s another story. We will impose the disobedience ordinance because it clearly violates the executive order again,” said Ligan.

Colonel Ligan said he has no qualms about the mayor’s new executive order as he understands how people feel after having been quarantined for over a month now.

His only request from the public is to drink responsibly and refrain from causing any disturbance while the ECQ is implemented.

Meanwhile, police have heightened security in Sitio Callejon, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, which has over 100 of the barangay’s 122 Covid-19 cases as of April 28.

According to Ligan, there are 37 PNP personnel assigned in the area to help enforce the lockdown. Aside from making sure residents cannot leave the sitio, he has ordered the police to monitor if there were some who were able to flee. However, he said he has not received any information regarding the matter.

Ligan did notice that the residents of the area have been cooperating and his team has not encountered any problem so far. (AYB with CBQ)
