EDUARD Folayang is maybe up against an unknown fighter in his title retention bid, but this does not mean he’s taking things lightly.
Folayang will be up against Korean mixed martial artist Dooje Chung when he steps into ring on March 27 for the Universal Reality Combat Challenge and defend his welterweight belt in the event dubbed “Reckoning.”
Folayang, who holds a 5 win-1 loss record in MMA, has two superfight belts under the URCC.
As a member of the Wushu National Team and a multiple Sea Games Gold Medalist, Folayang uses his swiftness and power to force his opponents to submission.
“I’m ready and all geared up,” said the many-time national wushu team member in a text message.
Folayang already went to Manila as early as Sunday to acclimatize in the Capital Region’s hot summer weather.
Chung, on the other hand, is an excellent striker with heavy hands and knockout power.
Chung, who also trains in jiu jitsu and is part of the Korean Gymnastics National Team, uses natural strength and flexibility to win his fights.
Also seeing in the undercard is undefeated George Lusadan, who has in impressive two victories in the URCC and will square off against debuting Dindo Campo. Erwin Focad, on the other hand, will test his mettle against Jessie Rafols.
Focad is known for his quick leg kicks and effective takedowns, while Rafols is a well-rounded fighter with excellent submissions and a knock-out artist.
The night also marks the return of the “Dancing Devil,” Richard Lasprilla from Deftac to once again show the URCC fans his fighting prowess. Lasprilla went into semi-retirement after his loss to Team Lakay’s Kevin Belingon last URCC 10.
Lasprilla holds a 4 win-1 loss and two draws record in the URCC. He will be going up against Angelo Estanol from Strike and Shoot.
Estanol, who has a commanding presence in the ring, is a Muay Thai practitioner and a wrestler who trains under Ronald Gavileno.
