Supporting Covid-19 frontliners through creativity

THE Covid-19 pandemic, though deadly in all aspects, has brought out the “bayanihan” spirit in every Filipino.

Medical and non-medical frontliners are working hand-in-hand in preventing this deadly virus from spreading. These modern-day heroes risk their lives just to save ours.

That said, creatives Raff Abenoja, Chanel, Jean Yu, Timmie Illut, Kim Javier, Humphrey Flores, John Inario, Ayin Visitacion, Rae Rosal, Johnpet Ridad, Elijah Caballero, together with their chairman Lyle Tanciano, formed Creative Initiative for PH Frontliners.

The group creates custom illustration avatars for donors in exchange for fund donations. All the funds that will be gathered will go directly to the chosen beneficiary or organization that produces Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other frontline or backline equipment for the modern-day heroes.

“We looked for groups on Facebook that produce PPE for frontliners. We created a list and support one beneficiary for each round we do. We received messages from some groups who are also seeking for support as well, and we are currently deliberating on how to support each of them,” said Tanciano.

According to Tanciano, the initiative started with a random chat with his designer friends. They discussed on how they would do it and created a survey on Facebook if people were willing to donate at least P100 in exchange for an artwork. The group got positive feedback from netizens, so they started the project last April 9.

Accepting requests is done per round. For each round, the group launches a Google form with which interested people can reserve their slots. Once they have reserved their slots, a donation of at least P100 should be sent to the group’s chosen beneficiary. People then send their proof of donation through its Facebook page for documentation. After two to three days after sending proof of donation, the artwork will be sent to the ones who donated.

Creative Initiative for PH Frontliners is also open for artists who wants to volunteer as this initiative is created with a long-term goal.

“In case something happens in the future, like any other emergency, we can use ‘Creative Initiative’ to support those who need through art and design,” added Tanciano.
